Second Half Goals Lift Raiders Past DWU

Julie Dunlap and Abby Noonan net goals for the Raiders

MITCHELL, S.D. – Utilizing a second half comeback, the Northwestern College women's soccer team (6-6-1, 2-4-1 GPAC) picks up their second win in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play, downing the Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers (2-7-1, 0-6-0 GPAC) Wednesday evening.

"Tonight was not our best soccer, but I'm proud of the grit the girls showed to come back. We played a very selfish first half and paid for it," said head coach Shannon Andringa. "We turned things around in the second half enough to get the win. A win is a win and we'll take the three points and learn from it."

The Tigers got on the board first in the 34th minute, as Deandrea Johnson gave DWU the lead heading into the halftime break. The Raiders put up five shots to DWU's three in the first 45 minutes, including having the nod in shots on-goal at 3-1, but could not get on the board. Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) was the main offensive threat in the first half, putting up three of the Raider shots with two being on-goal.

Noonan and Alexa Johnson (Fr., Spencer, Iowa) joined in on the Raider attack in the second half, combining for five shots and three being on-goal. Dunlap wasted no time in the second half, scoring the equalizer in the 49th minute off a free kick for her ninth goal of the season. In the 63rd minute, Abby Noonan (Jr., Carlisle, Iowa) got into the action, scoring her third goal of the season to give the Raiders the 2-1 advantage.

MATCH NOTES:
  • Northwestern had 11 shots on the match, seven of them were on-goal.
