Alons Records 300th Career Save on Senior Night

Northwestern concludes 2022 season with home loss

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (6-11-1, 2-9-1 GPAC) season came to a close Saturday night with a 3-0 home loss to the Doane University Tigers (8-8-2, 5-6-1 GPAC) as Northwestern celebrated the senior class. Senior goalkeeper Kaelin Alons records her 300th career save.

"Congrats to Kaelin (Alons) on this accomplishment! This is a testament to the daily work that she puts in," said head coach Shannon Andringa. "Our goalkeepers are a special group who push each other everyday and Kaelin is deserving of this."

Though the night did not go as wanted, the senior class was able to finish their Red Raider career on their home pitch in front of the home crowd. It was a scoreless affair after the first 45 minutes of action, despite the Tigers putting up 16 shots. Alons recorded eight saves in the net in the half, with her first being No. 300.

In the second half, senior April Van Tol (Rock Valley, Iowa) checked in for her final action in a Red Raider uniform. She notched two saves, but the Tigers were able to find the back of the net three times. The game-winner came in the 60th minute as Michaela Thompson was able to break the scoreless tie.

Northwestern celebrated the senior class tonight on their commitment to the women's soccer program. April Van Tol (Rock Valley, Iowa), Emily Schmidt (Bellevue, Neb.), Chloe Weigand (Lakeville, Minn.), Katie Jacob (Zimmerman, Minn.), Julie Dunlap (Des Moines, Iowa), Keslie Paul (Frisco, Texas), and Kaelin Alons (Orange City, Iowa).

"These seniors were tasked with leading a very young team this year which is not an easy feat. They embraced the opportunity with grace and have put their blood, sweat, and tears into changing the culture of the program for the better," commented Andringa on the senior class. "They have invested in our underclassmen and committed to leaving the program better than they found it. I'm super proud of them and the mark they have left, we will miss them!"

MATCH NOTES:
  • Northwestern was outshot 27-3 in the match.
  • One of the Raider shots was on-goal.
  • Senior Julie Dunlap put up two shots and notched the one shot on-goal.
  • Fellow senior Katie Jacob put up the other Red Raider shot in the match.
  • NWC recorded 10 team saves, eight recorded by senior keeper Kaelin Alons.
