The Northwestern College baseball team had its 2021 season come to an end with a 10-1 loss against the University of Jamestown in an elimination game played today in the Doane Bracket of the GPAC Baseball Postseason Championship.
The Raiders finish with a 19-27 record; Jamestown extends its season with a 30-22 mark.
Northwestern fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first inning as the Jimmies plated three runs off Raider starter
Brett Shelton (5-5). Tayler Cullen reached on a bases loaded walk, scoring Brian Rice, and Michael Ashara hit a two-run single.Â
Jamestown extended its lead with a five-run fifth inning on doubles by Chase Hacker, Bauer Sewell and Cullen along with a single from Tanner Shepard. Both teams plated a run in the sixth; Northwestern scored its lone run off a solo home run by
Kip Cullinan, his fifth of the season.Â
The Jimmies tacked on a run in each of the seventh and ninth innings; Cullen hit a solo home run in the seventh and Lincoln Trujillo went yard in the ninth.
Northwestern totaled seven hits, two by
Sutton Derr who went 2-for-3 in his final game as a Raider. Cullinan,
Eli Rash,
Sam Stanford,
Evan Olesen and
Jaden Snyder all had one hit each for Head Coach
Brian Wede's squad.Â
Sheton gave up six hits and six runs in the first 4.1 innings; the sophomore struck out three.

Edison Goodlow (.1 IP) and
Ethan Buckner (.2 IP) closed out the game.
Kensaku Akiya (3-5) limited Northwestern to five hits and one run in seven innings to earn the victory. Luke Shekeryk and Cullen each had two hits for the Jimmies.
