Late Inning Heroics Come Up Short In Game One Loss

A two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings but Northwestern ended up losing to the University of Jamestown 7-3 in eight innings of game one of a conference doubleheader played today in Orange City. The Raiders were shutout in game two 7-0 and move to 8-16 on the season.

    Game One: 7-3 loss (8 innings)
  • Scoring Recap:
    • Kendall Yackley put Jamestown up 1-0 with a two-out, solo home run in the top of the second
    • Raider infielder Jaden Snyder returned the favor with a lead off home run in the bottom of the third, tying the game 1-1
    • Jimmies designated hitter Luke Shekeryk led off the fourth with a home run, putting his team back in front
    • Shekeryk's pinch runner, Blake Arritola, put Jamestown in front 3-1 when he scored on an RBI single by Brice Foster
    • Northwestern rallied with a par of runs in the seventh, all with two outs; 
      • Snyder led off with a single, advanced to second after a single by Sutton Derr; both scored after a two-run triple by Colton Harold
    • Jamestown loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eighth, scoring the winning run after a wild pitch
      • Chase Hacker added a two-run double and came around to score the final run on a single by Tayler Cullen
  • By the Numbers:
    • Northwestern outhit Jamestown 9-8
    • Dylan Kirkeby pitched the first six innings, limiting Jamestown to five hits and three runs while striking out six
    • Nate Rice worked a scoreless seventh inning for Coach Wede's squad
    • Derr paced Northwestern with three hits, Sam Stanford and Snyder both had two hits
    • Jamestown closer Aaron Pugh earned the win (1-2), pitching 1.1 scoreless innings
    Game Two: 7-0 loss
  • Scoring Recap:
    • an RBI groundout from Luke Shekeryk put Jamestown up 1-0 in the top of the first; Dylan Dudley scored after a Northwestern error later in the inning for a 2-0 lead
    • Taylor Cullen (double) and Grant Okawa (single) both drove in runs in the second inning
    • Jamestown made the score 5-0 with an unearned run in the fifth
    • the Jimmies finished their scoring with two runs in the seventh on a single by Foster
  • By the Numbers:
    • Northwestern totaled three hits, all singles, by Derr, Stanford and Eli Rash
    • Luke Hughes (1-2) took the loss, giving up five hits and three runs in 3.1 innings
    • Ryan Reynolds, Ben Zeutenhorst and Trever Reinke combined for 2.2 scoreless innings of relief
    • Kendall Yackley (2-0) earned the shutout win, striking out eight
    • Cullen, Dudley and Dirk Eymundson all had two hits for Jamestown
