League of Legends Takes Down Pittsburg State 2-1

Sunday, October 24, 2021

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College League of Legends team (3-2) took down Pittsburg State (Kan.) on Friday evening to pick up their third win of the season.

Raiders take home the game one win against Pittsburg State in an even game until about the 20-minute mark when the Raiders had a strong team fight that snowballed in Northwestern's favor. Northwestern's senior ADC Ryan Van Ostrand (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) and support player Sonu Gupta (Fr., Birgunj, Nepal/National Infotech), had strong performances of 18/1/13 and 1/0/20, respectively as the Raiders took the win in about 37 minutes.

Due to technical error in the second game, Northwestern's win in the game was revoked and they were forced to replay. In the replay, despite strong efforts from Northwestern's Jungler Erik Vanderlaan (Sr., George, Iowa/George-Little Rock) and junior mid-laner Jeremiah Delzer tried to pull together the Northwestern squad despite being in unfavorable matchups. Northwestern lost to Pitt State who maintained full control over the game from start to finish at the 32-minute mark.

The third game was a controlled victory for the Raiders led by top-laner Jonathan Kuehn (Sr., Ostego, Minn./Homeschooled) and ADC Van Ostrand who went 7/1/5 and 7/0/5, respectively. Northwestern maintained a strong gold advantage and objective control from the beginning of the game, which lead to a final fight in which Northwestern looked like they were going to lose, but Kuehn landed a huge ultimate which was followed up by ADC Van Ostrand. After this, Northwestern was able to close out the game at the 33-minute mark.

Up Next: The Raiders will take on George Fox University (Ore.) this upcoming Wednesday, October 27 at 8:00 p.m.
