Story Links

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 23-ranked Northwestern College men's soccer team (9-1-1, 5-0 GPAC) extends their win streak to five matches – all in league play – with a 4-0 shutout win over the Jamestown Jimmies (3-4-2, 2-3-1 GPAC) Saturday afternoon at the NWC Soccer Complex.

The Raiders had the momentum seemingly for the entire match as the Raiders outshot the Jimmies 12-6 on the match. Northwestern would also put the pressure on the Jimmie keeper putting a total of five shots on goal with a season-high four finding the back of the net.

James Bolger (Jr., Boyle, Republic of Ireland/Abbey Community College) would net the game-winner in the 33rd minute with the assist to Netherlands-born Luc Roelofs (So., Nederasselt, Netherlands/Kandisky College). The Raiders took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break but would not look back.

The second half proved to be all Northwestern as the squad was oozing with confidence. In the 60th minute, senior Joshua Wingfield (Bronx, N.Y./Polytech) put up an insurance goal, but the Raiders weren't done.

Approximately five minutes later, Italian Marco Alessio (So., Chioggia, Italy/Liceo Giuseppe Veronese) nets his second goal of the season as Northwestern extended their lead to 3-0. Roelofs picked up his second assist of the match and the Raider bench was loved Alessio's goal, erupting in celebration.

As the match was winding down, a Jamestown foul was whistled in the box setting the stage for Stan van den Beld (Fr., Voorhout, Netherlands/Rijnlands Lyceum Sassenheim) to get a penalty shot against Jimmie keeper Alex Hamer. As van den Beld approached the ball, Hamer guessed right but van den Beld pocketed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net, sealing the Raider's victory with their fourth goal of the match. It marks van den Beld's first collegiate goal.

The shutout victory this afternoon becomes fifth shutout win of the season for the nationally-ranked Raiders. All five shutouts are credited to the two-time Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Defensive player of the week Ezekiel Foltz (Jr., Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center). Foltz would tally one save on the match, the only Jimmie shot on goal on the day.

Up Next: Northwestern welcomes the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan (2-9, 1-3 GPAC) to the NWC Soccer Complex Wednesday evening, Oct. 6 for a GPAC clash. Kickoff scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
