Noa Vogel hit a two-out, walkoff single to score
Drew Schutt and give Northwestern a 13-12, come-from-behind win over Bethesda (Calif.) last night in Tucson, Ariz. The Red Raiders lost their first game to Concordia (Minn.) 16-5 (6 innings).
Northwestern improved to 6-8 on the season heading into Thursday's game against Presentation.
Game Two: 13-12 win vs Bethesda
Down one (12-11) in the bottom of the ninth,
Colton Harold hit a one-out double and was lifted for pinch runner
Jaden Snyder. Schutt followed with a single, scoring Snyder, and went to second after a single by
Kip Cullinan. Following a strikeout, Vogel drove a Bethesda pitch into left field, scoring Schutt and putting Northwestern on top.
Brady Nicolett (W) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to get the win, striking out one.
Schutt had a monster game at the plate, going 4/6 with three runs and three RBI. Leadoff hitter
Sutton Derr went 3/6 with two runs and a run scored, Cullinan added three hits and two runs and Vogel went 3/5 with four RBI, none bigger than the game-winner.
Northwestern totaled 16 hits and scored at least one run in six of the nine innings.
Game One: 16-5 loss vs Concordia - St. Paul
The Red Raiders let a 5-2 lead slip away in losing to Concordia-St.Paul 16-5 in the first game of the day.
With Northwestern holding a three-run lead heading into the fourth inning, Concordia plated eight runs in the fourth, a single run in the fifth and ended the game with a five-spot in the sixth. The Golden Bears totaled 21 hits and outscored Northwestern 14-0 over the final three innings.
Evan Olesen (L) gave up 12 hits and 10 runs while striking out three in 3.1 innings of work.
