The Red Raider wrestlers fell in their first dual of the season, 34-7, to Briar Cliff University Wednesday night in Sioux City, Iowa.
The first of the Raider wins came from
Trey Schuck who wrestled up a weight class on the evening. He earned his fourth win of the year taking down Maxiums Barajas via decision 9-5. Schuck is undefeated on the season with 13 total takedowns in his first four matches.
Luke Jenness earned the other match win for the Raiders with a major decision over Jake Leicht, 10-2. Jenness, ranked 1st in the GPAC and 10th in the NAIA, also earned his fourth with on the year and stays undefeated. He also leads the Raiders on the year with 25 team points.
In GPAC ranked wrestler matches, Ben Peters took an early lead and did not look back in route to a 12-3 major decision over 1st ranked
Blake Pomajzl in the 157 pound weight class. Caleb Shanks, 1st in the GPAC, edged out
Bennett Sikkink, 3rd in the GPAC, via decision 5-3 at the 197 pound weight class.
""Overall we just got beat," commented head coach
Rik Dahl. "They wrestled through positions better and were more aggressive and mor confident in their attacks. We will reload and get back after it on Friday in Jamestown."
The Raiders travel to Jamestown, N.D. Friday night to take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies. The dual is slated to start at 7pm.
