Northwestern College beats Mount Marty 1-0 in a women's soccer conference match played tonight under the lights at DeValois Stadium. The Raiders finish the season 5-7 in the GPAC, 5-7-1 overall. Mount Marty falls to 2-9-1 in the GPAC and 2-10-1 overall.
Kailey Heemskerk scored the game winner, her first career goal, in the 76th minute off a Northwestern corner kick.
Audrey Leyen played a great cross in and Heemskerk was able to beat her Lancer defender to the ball and chested the ball into the back of the net.
Kaelin Alons stopped all 4 Mount Marty shots on-goal while
Katie Jacob led the Raiders with 4 shots, 3 on goal. Heemskerk had 3 shots while four other Raiders had 2 shots on the night.
The Raiders dominated most of the possession and run of play but could not break down the stout Lancer defense in the final third of the field. Northwestern earned 10 corners on the night due to this domination on the run of play and finally finished on one with Heemskerk's finish.
Mount Marty's Jamie Tebben had ten saves.
