Men's Soccer Hosts Mount Marty For Senior Night

Raiders have won four straight, six of their last seven

Game Time... The Northwestern College men's soccer team looks to extend its win streak when they host Mount Marty for a conference match this weekend. Saturday's game will also be senior night where Head Coach Dan Swier and the rest of the coaching staff will recognize the seven seniors on this year's roster. Game time is set for 7:15pm.

Northwestern has won four straight and six of its last seven games to climb up to fifth place in the current GPAC standings with a 6-3 record. They are 8-3 overall and have one match (@ Jamestown) left in the regular season. Mount Marty has lost four straight and brings a 1-7-2 GPAC record, 2-8-2 overall, into the weekend.

All-Time...Northwestern is 20-0 all-time against the Lancers, dating back to the first match played during the 2000 season. Last year, the Raiders defeated Mount Marty 4-0, led by Jake Foscalina with two goals and Christopher Ten Pas had an assist.

Scouting Reports...

    Mount Marty Lancers: 1-7-2 (GPAC), 2-8-2 overall            Head Coach: Carlos Saenz (3rd year)


Since defeating Presentation (3-0) on Oct. 21, Mount Marty has dropped its last four and has been outscored 16-1 in losses to Morningside, Jamestown, Midland and Doane. They are in 10th place in the GPAC with a 1-7-2 record, tying both Concordia and Dakota Wesleyan. The Lancers' season will be over after Saturday's game against Northwestern.

Saenz is in his third season as the head of the Lancers program, returning to his alma mater prior to the 2018 season. Saenz, a 2012 grad, holds the program's record for career assists. Last season, he guided Mount Marty to its first ever postseason bid, placing eighth in the GPAC with a 3-7-1 record, 5-11-1 overall.

Four straight wins have put the Raiders within a 1/2 game of Concordia for fourth place in the current GPAC standings and from hosting a quarterfinal match next spring. They have won six of their last seven matches since the beginning of October and have just one game left, at Jamestown, this fall.

Seven seniors are on the 2020 roster: Matt Roll, Derek Zevenbergen, Jake Foscalina, Christopher Ten pas, Juan Mackrey, Phillippe Patri and Wilfredo Almendarez. Together the group has compiled a GPAC record of 25-13-2, 39-26-4 overall, and has qualified for the GPAC postseason each season.
