The Red Raiders dominated the Doane University Tigers Saturday evening putting up 3 goals for a 3-0 win. It pushed the Raiders to 4-3-1 overall and 1-1 GPAC while the Tigers fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the GPAC.
The first half was commanded by the Raiders in almost every category possible as they put up 12 shots in the first 45 minutes. But the breakthrough would not come through until the 42nd minute when
Audrey Tacey won the ball of the Doane center back and player
Megan Sattler through past the back line. Sattler had plenty of time on her hands as the Tiger back line was beat bad and she calmly slotted in her first goal of the season, second of her career. IT would also be Tacey's first assist of her career.
The challenge was to not let the 1-0 lead slip in the second half and again, the Raiders would come out flying. They were powerful in the air and in tackles and caused issues for Doane's attack all while putting them under pressure.
The relief would come in the 74th minute when
Megan Sattler would again find a through ball past the Doane back line, this time from
MacKenzie Bammer, and would again calmly slot the ball into the back of the net. It would be Sattler's second of the night and the season. It would also be Bammer's third assist of the season.
The final nail in the match would come in the 84th minute with
Emily Hurley stringing together a few great moves down the sideline to beat the outside back and she would play a hard hit cross into the box where
Tatiana Garcia would just beat her defender to the ball and snuck into the back of the net. It was Garcia's second goal of the year and Hurley's second assist.
Liz Foster made 3 saves for her 3rd shutout of the season.
"It was a great performance for 90 minutes," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "We did not become afraid to fail after so many great chances just didn't go our way and we saw the results pay off for us. It is fun to see our gals play fearless and willing to play risky without fearing failure."
The Raiders travel to Aberdeen, S.D. Wednesday to take on Presentation College for a 1pm kickoff.
