No.8 Northwestern Hosts Jamestown For Homecoming Game

Game Time...8th-ranked Northwestern hosts the University of Jamestown (N.D.) for its Homecoming game this weekend, Sept. 28. Kickoff at DeValois Stadium is set for 1:30pm. Unbeaten this season, Northwestern is 2-0 in the GPAC, 3-0 overall. The Jimmies are 0-2 in conference play and are winless in four games overall.

All-Time...Northwestern is 3-1 all-time against the Jimmies, dating back to its first match-up during the 2000 season. The Red Raiders cruised to a 49-7 road win over Jamestown in week two last season.

Last Year...  Tyson Kooima threw for three touchdowns and the Raider Defense overwhelmed Jamestown in leading No.7 Northwestern to a 49-7 rout of the Jimmies in the GPAC opener for both teams. 

Kooima completed touchdown passes to three different receivers and threw for 227 yards while rushing for 49 yards and a score to lead the Red Raider offense. He threw touchdown passes of 35 yards to Cade Moser, of 40 yards to Shane Solberg and a six-yard strike to Jared Nelson. 

Bryce Van Beek nabbed a career-high three interceptions, returning one 49 yards for a defensive touchdown in the second quarter, to highlight the defensive effort. He matched the Red Raiders single game record, matching both Grant Mosier (vs Dana in 2007) and Justin Wohlert (vs Concordia in 2014). 
The Raider D limited Jamestown to just nine first downs and 93 yards passing for the game.

Northwestern totaled 478 yards of offense compared to 200 for the Jimmies. Kalogonis finished the game just five yards shy of his second consecutive 100-yard game with 18 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Kooima completed 13 / 26 passes for 227 yards while Solberg led the receiving corps with five catches for 92 yards and a score.

Noah Van't Hof and Justin Faber led the Raider D with seven tackles each.

Mistro is in his first season as the Jimmies head coach, returning to his alma mater after a seven year stint as an assistant with Concordia (Minn.). Mistro played for Jamestown from 2005-08, earning all-conference honors as a safety. He inherits a team that finished tied with Concordia for eighth place in the GPAC at 2-7, 3-8 overall in 2018.

Jamestown began the season with a pair of non-conference losses to Valley City State and Dickinson State and then dropped games to Hastings (38-21) and Dordt (41-16) in GPAC play the last two weeks.

The Red Raiders climbed to the No.8 spot in this week's NAIA coaches' poll after its 52-7 win over Dakota Wesleyan last weekend in Mitchell, S.D. They are one of two teams from the GPAC, along with Morningside, recognized in the coaches' poll.
