The Red Raider women's soccer team looks to rebound from a rough 2018 season as they begin their 2019 regular season Tuesday at home with a match against Viterbo University (Wis.). The Raiders were 5-13, 4-8 GPAC, in 2018 and finished 1 point out of the conference playoffs, finishing 9^th in the GPAC.

Northwestern returns 6 consistent starters and big minute players in Ashlee Speck (Sr., Whispering Pines, N.C.), MacKenzie Bammer (Sr., Livermore, Calif.), Kadence Cruse (Sr., Watertown, S.D.), Nikky Farnsworth (Sr., Pierre, S.D.), Taelor Lamansky (Jr. Clive, Iowa) and Tatiana Garcia (Sr. Denver, Colo.)

"We have a solid core returning from last season", commented head coach Ben Karnish. "We have a lot of gals that have never experienced a season like 2018 and they made it a goal to work hard in the offseason so that it doesn't happen in 2019."

Coach Karnish and coach Lucy brought in 17 new players into the program from last season and are keen on finding ways for the newcomers to make a difference right away.

"Our staff did a wonderful job bringing in a lot of new faces from a variety of competitive clubs and high school teams," commented Karnish. "We had 11 seniors graduate from last season so there are ample opportunities for newcomers to come in and earn significant playing time right away. New faces always drive competition within the team and take them to higher levels and we are excited to see how this group can push our team."

The Raiders have an even schedule this year with nine matches at home and nine matches on the road.
"We have a schedule that we know will be a challenge for a younger group. We feel that our non-conference will help us prepare for the grind of the GPAC and it will hopefully help our group mesh into a talented team."
