Six More Join Men's Soccer for 2019

Wednesday, April 17, 2019

The Northwestern College men's soccer team has added six players to its 2019 incoming class, head coach Dan Swier announced.

Joining the Red Raiders for the 2019 season will be Mason McGill, Luke Andres, Noah Smith, Jarett Rueb, Emilien Meray, and Nick Spykstra.

Mason McGill| Forward | Blue Valley West High School
Native of Overland Park, Kansas
Mason spent the last four years at Blue Valley West High School under head coach Alex Aiman.  He was a part of a team that went 7-8-1 in the fall of 2018.  Mason led the team in goals scored, while competing against the best of the best in their conference and the state.  He plans to major in Graphic Design while at Northwestern.
Swier on McGill: "Mason showed well when he trained with our team in the fall.  He has competed at a high level for a number of years and will be part of a group that looks to fill the gaps left by all the forwards we will graduate this spring."

Luke Andres | Midfielder | MOC-FV High School
Native of Orange City, Iowa
Luke is someone that the coaching staff has had on their radar for quite some time.  He helped lead his team to an 8-9 record in 2018, leading the team in assists.  Luke plans to study Computer Science while attending Northwestern College.
Swier on Andres: "Luke has continued to improve as a player each year that we have watched him play.  He is a quality young man and will undoubtedly make positive contributions to our program in a variety of ways."

Noah Smith | Midfielder | Center Point-Urbana High School
Native of Center Point, Iowa
Noah comes to Northwestern from a high school program that is on the rise.  In his junior season, Noah helped lead Center Point-Urbana to an 8-4 record.  The team is optimistic for 2019, as he will play an integral role in the midfield this season.  Noah plans to study Pre-Engineering while attending Northwestern.
Swier on Smith: "Noah is another player who has a bright upside.  The best is still ahead for him as he continues to grow as a player.  Noah shared with me that none of the other schools he visited even compared to his experience at Northwestern."

Jarett Rueb | Midfielder | Vermillion High School
Native of Vermillion, South Dakota
Jarett is coming off a successful senior season, where he captained his team to a top four finish in the state.  Jarett was selected as an All-State honoree for his efforts.  He plans to study Elementary Education while at Northwestern College.
Swier on Rueb: "Jarett will bring more of that necessary competition to the forward position in 2019.  We are excited to see how he transitions into our program this fall.  He is anxious to get started, and so are we!"

Emilien Meray | Goalkeeper | Coral Reef High School
Native of Miami, Florida
While Emilien had to sit out his senior season due to injury, he comes from a very strong program.  Coral Reef attained a 14-6-2 record this past season, qualifying for the state tournament for the second year in a row.  Emilien plans to study Pre-Medicine while attending Northwestern.
Swier on Meray: "It was clear that Emilien's past injuries were fully rehabilitated when he attended our winter ID Camp.  He possessed many of the top qualities we look for in a goalkeeper and we feel he has the tools to be an impactful player in our program."

Nick Spykstra | Forward | Lutheran High School
Native of Parker, Colorado
Nick helped lead Lutheran to a 9-5-2 record this past season where he scored 8 goals and recorded 4 assists.  He also achieved First Team Academic All-State honors.  Nick is currently undecided on a major.
Swier on Spykstra: "When Nick came on his visit he just knew that Northwestern was the right school for him.  We love it when our players have that much clarity after their campus visit.  Nick is passionate about soccer and we are happy that we still had room for him to join our roster!"

"I cannot wait to get this group of incoming players together this fall to begin their journey as Red Raiders," assistant coach Adam Potter said.  "We know what positional roles we need to fill from our graduating class, and we feel like we have put in the hard work to address those needs with these incoming players along with the current players on our roster.  We are confident that this team we have constructed will continue to help us strive toward our conference and national tournament goals."
