The Red Raiders fell to the Concordia University Bulldogs Friday 29-10 in their first dual of the season.
The night started off rough for NWC falling in two straight decisions but the bounce back came in a major decision for
Andrew Null with a 12-4 win over Issiah Burks at the 165 pound weight class.
Dylan Costello would come extremely close to strong upset over Deandre Chery but he would fall a point short from forcing overtime.
NWC would take the lead after a decision by
Luke Jenness and a major decision by
D'rell Gist but the lead would quickly fade as Michael Stann would pin
Skyler Bonestroo 2:12 into the match.
Another pin coupled with a tech fall would put the match all but out of reach with two matches remaining.
The Raiders would end up finishing on a 4 match losing streak on the night.
"It was a tough pill to swallow as we had chances to win at four weights and couldn't capitalize on any of them," commented head coach
Rik Dahl. "The guys battled hard to put themselves in a position to win those tight matches against a tough team (and that is a huge praise for our young team), but couldn't seal the deal. We will recover for two days and then get back at it as we prepare for a tough Briar Cliff team in our home opener on Wednesday night."
Northwestern hits the mat next on Wednesday, November 20 as they host Briar Cliff for their first home dual of the year.
