The Red Raiders fell in a close match to Briar Cliff University Wednesday afternoon 1-2.
Northwestern falls to 7-5-1 overall and 4-3 in the GPAC while the Chargers improve to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the GPAC.
The Raiders fell behind in the 9th minute off a failed clearance attempt on a corner put the ball at the feet of Mariana Ocegueda who put home the lose ball.Â
Northwestern would battle well the rest of the first half to keep the Chargers at bay and go into half only down 1-0.
The Raiders would go down in the 60th minute after a long range shot from Gisselle Jimenez.
Northwestern would cut the deficit would be cut in half in the 64th minute after
Nikky Farnsworth bounced on a loose ball in the 6 yard box.
The Raiders kept the pressure up but could not find the back of the net to force overtime.
Liz Foster would make 15 saves on the day for NWC.
"It was a tough fought match today," commented head coach
Ben Karnish. "We dug into a hole in the first half but rebounded in the second and player the way we knew we could. Unfortunate to not get a result today but our ladies battled hard."
Northwestern hosts the College of Saint Mary Saturday for senior night. Kickoff is at 5pm.
