Emily Bosch drove in the winning run with one out in the eighth inning as Northwestern rallied for a 4-3 win in game one of a softball doubleheader played today against Hastings. The Red Raiders came up short in game two, falling 4-0, to finish in third place in the GPAC with a 15-5 record, 30-9 overall.Â
Tied at three in the top of the eighth,
Jessica Sandbulte drew a leadoff walk and went to second on groundout by
Kayla Tindall. Bosch then singled to left field, scoring Sandbulte and the game-winning run. Tindall put down the Hastings bats in order in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
Tindall (14-5) earned the victory and matched her career-best for wins in a season. The senior allowed eight hits, just one over the last three innings, three runs and struck out seven.
The Red Raiders overcame a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Katie Elliott drew a leadoff walk and
Madison Beaver belted her first home run of the season over the left field fence to make it a one-run game. Sandbulte then reached on a fielders choice, advanced to second after a walk to Tindall and came around to score after a Hastings' error on a ball hit by Bosch.Â
Beaver led the Red Raiders with two hits and two RBIs. Bosch and
Emma Schnell had the other two hits for Head Coach
Chris Nachtigall's squad.
Josie Bumgardner (5-15) took the loss, giving up four hits and three earned runs while striking out eight. Corrin Ziepke and Alyssa Carter had two hits each for the Bronocs.

Game Two...
Kyra Maguire (5-17) pitched a complete-game, seven-hit shutout to defeat Northwestern in game two 4-0. Maguire walked two and struck out one in earning her first shutout of the season. Ziepke and Bumgardner provided the offense for the Broncos, both hitting a home run and going 2-for-3 at the plate. Ziepke put Hastings up for good with a solo home run in the third and Bumgardner hit a two-run shot in the fourth.Â

Emma Schnell (15-3) pitched well in the loss, limiting the Broncos to seven hits and four runs while striking out two.
Cheyenne Wilcke led the Red Raiders with two hits, including a double, and five others had one hit each.
