Softball Closes Regular Season At Hastings

Game Time...(RV) Northwestern College makes the long trip west to Hastings, Neb. to play the Broncos in the final doubleheader of the GPAC regular season. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1pm. Northwestern is currently tied with Morningside for second place in the GPAC with a 14-4 record, two games in back of Midland in the win column with two games to go. The Red Raiders are 29-8 overall. Hastings is in 10th place in the GPAC with a 3-15 record, 9-33 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series against Hastings 48-16 but has dropped two straight and three of the last five. The teams have split the last 10 games played against each other. Last year, NWC lost to the Broncos 9-8 and 14-0 in five innings.

The Broncos have been ravaged by injuries this season and are in 10th place in the current GPAC standings with a 3-15 record, 9-33 overall. They have lost eight straight games since a sweep against College of Saint Mary on April 17. Hastings has been swept by Midland, Dordt, Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside the last two weeks.

Baker returns three starters and one of his top two pitchers from last year's team that won the GPAC Postseason title and advanced to play in the NAIA Opening Round Championship. They finished with a 36-24 overall record and went 14-6 (T2nd) in the GPAC. Baker lost five players who earned first team all-conference honors.

The Red Raiders are tied with Morningside for second place in the GPAC with a 14-4 record, 29-8 overall. They have won five of their last six games, sweeping doubleheaders against Doane and College of Saint Mary before splitting with Mount Marty last time out. 

Northwestern has hit 41 home runs as a team this season, second most all-time and three off matching the record of 44 set in 1996. Cheyenne Wilcke leads the GPAC with 11 home runs, tied for the fifth most all-time at NW and most since the the 2008 season.
