Kayla Tindall and
Emma Schnell both turned in dominant pitching efforts and the Red Raider offense used the long ball to sweep College of Saint Mary 3-1 and 3-0 in a GPAC doubleheader played tonight in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders improve to 13-3 in conference play, 28-7 overall, with four games left in the regular season.
Tindall won her third consecutive start and improved to 13-4 on the season in leading the Red Raiders to a 3-1 win in game one. The senior allowed four hits, one run and struck out six in seven innings, moving into second place all-time in career strikeouts (394), passing Barb Bahrke (1977-80) and trailing Megan McHugh (480). The win improved Tindall's career record to 48-36, tying her for sixth place all-time in career wins with Keely Bracelin and Katie VandeVoort who both played during the 2011-14 seasons.
Emily Bosch and
Katie Elliott both had two hits in leading the Red Raiders at the plate. Tindall added a two-run home run in the third inning and
Jessica Sandbulte,
Jensen Boger and
Madison Beaver all had one hit each.
Whitney Chamberlain accounted for the lone run for the Flames, hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning. Nicki Larsen added a double while Brittney Banks and April Sherburne both hit singles. Banks (4-9) suffered the loss, giving up all eight hits and three runs in six innings.
Sandbulte and
Cheyenne Wilcke hit solo home runs and Schnell earned her second career shutout in leading the Red Raiders to a 3-0, game two win.
Leading 1-0, Sandbulte belted her fourth home run of the season with one out in the fourth inning while Wilcke hit her GPAC-leading 10th home run of the year in the fifth. The 10 home runs by Wilcke is the most by a Red Raider player in a season since Lizz Swanson in 2008.
The three runs was more than enough for Schnell, who improved to 14-2 on the year and lowered her GPAC-leading ERA to 1.54. The freshman scattered seven hits and struck out one.
Madison Beaver began the scoring with a leadoff double in the first, advanced to third on a stolen base and came around to score after a throwing error by CSM.
Larsen (6-12) took the loss for the Flames, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out two. She also had one hit at the plate and Taelar Solano went 2-for-3. College of Saint Mary drops to 4-12 in the GPAC, 13-25 overall.
