Monday, March 19, 2018

Mitchell Rentschler (Larchwood, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next fall.

Rentschler is a 6'1", 195-pound running back and defensive end who played four years for West Lyon High School. Rentschler was a first team all-district selection after leading his team to the state semifinals with an 11-1 record. He rushed for 387 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 248 yards and three scores. On defense, he registered five quarterback sacks to go with 35 tackles, 10 for a loss. Rentschler earned second team all-district accolades as a junior and has also earned all-district/all-conference honors in baseball, basketball and track and field. He was part of a shuttle hurdle relay that finished fourth at the state meet last spring. An outstanding student who was named academic all-state and is also a member of the National Honor Society, Rentschler plans to major in Biology/Health Professions at Northwestern. He is the son of Thomas and Janelle.

"Mitchell is a very talented player who has tremendous work ethic," said Northwestern head football coach Matt McCarty. "He is strong, athletic and understands what it takes to be successful. Mitchell is a great addition to our defense and will excel at Northwestern College."
