Raiders Drop Regular Season Opener to Jamestown

The Red Raiders lost their season opener today at the University of Jamestown in a tight match that ended 0-1.

Northwestern was outshot 17-3 and had only 1 shot on goal compared to the Jimmies' 6. The loan goal came off a corner kick in the 64th minute where Nicole Bologna collected a short corner kick and drove home a 25 yard shot to the top near post corner.

The Raiders had a some good chances to score in both halves but could not finish the deal. Maddie Swift had a great chance in the 23rd minute but just pushed the shot wide. They also had many chances that did not come to shots on goal in both halves.

Naomi Schimmel made 5 very good saves throughout the match and kept the score close for the Raiders. Her sprawling save at the end of the first half kept the score level at half.

"You never want to start off with a loss if you have the choice," commented Head Coach Ben Karnish on the loss. "But the ladies worked hard throughout and even though we have some things to fine tune, it was good to see us compete for 90 minutes at a high pace. Some small things got missed in big moments that could have changed the game and you now have the chance to learn from them as a group and move forward onto the next task at hand."

The Red Raiders will look for their first win of the season this Saturday when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. fo face off against the University of SIoux Falls.
