Northwestern College lost to Doane 6-0 in an elimination game at the GPAC Softball Tournament, Morningside Bracket played this afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. The Red Raiders end the season with a 23-24 overall record.Â
A single by Jensen Boger in the fifth inning proved to be the only hit allowed by Doane pitcher Hannah Feagler (8-4), who struck out three and walked none in the complete-game one-hitter. Northwestern had just one other base runner (Boger) who reached first on catchers interference.Â
Making her final start in a Red Raider uniform, Morgan Means (9-13) took the loss, giving up 10 hits and six runs in 4.1 innings. Kayla Tindall pitched the final 2.2 innings of scoreless relief and gave up one hit.
Scoreless after two inning, Doane plated three runs to take the lead for good in the third inning. Heather Ramiriez hit a two-run single and Jordan Van Roy added an RBI double. Doane scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth after a two-run single by Jacquelyn Garza. An RBI single by Taylor Helton led to the final run in the top of the fifth inning.
Nicole Fernandez led the Tigers from the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Kelsey Bernhardt went 2-for-4 and a pair of runs scored while six other Doane players had one hit each.
Today's games were the final ones for the six Northwestern seniors; Jaclyn Smith, Mons Figueroa, Jessica Rayela, Morgan Means, Sam Wielenga and Bri Petrauskas.
