Rickabaugh Pitches Red Raiders To Game Two Win

Alec Rickabaugh pitched the first complete-game of his career in leading Northwestern to a 9-2 win in game two of a conference doubleheader against Morningside this evening in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders came up short in game one, losing 2-0, and move to 8-18 in the GPAC, 17-28 overall.

Rickabaugh improved to 5-1 on the year as the freshman held the potent Morningside line-up in check, giving up just three hits and two runs in seven innings. He walked four and struck out six.

Matt Martin paced the Red Raiders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Both Casey Guthmiller and Joe Done added two hits while five other players totaled one hit each.

The Red Raiders grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Michael Callahan home run, his fifth of the season. They plated two more runs in the third on an RBI double by Guthmiller and a single by Martin.

Northwestern put the game away with a five-run fourth inning, scoring four of the runs with two outs. David Rowley had an RBI double and Martin smacked a two-run double.

Morningside scored both of its runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Jacob Lamoreux, taking advantage of back-to-back walks given up by Rickabaugh.

Northwestern plated the final run when Guthmiller scored after an RBI single by Martin.

Morningside won game one behind the pitching of Richard Mitchell, who limited NW to three singles over seven innings. Mitchell, now 6-2 on the year, struck out five and did not allow a Red Raider past second base.

The Mustangs scored both runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Isaac Horigan (6-4). Lamoreux led off with a double and advanced to third after a walk to Nolan Hoff and a single by Nate DeChaine. Blake Rogers drove in Lamoreux on a groundout and Hoff scored after an RBI single by Cole Chapin.

Horigan allowed 10 hits, walked two and struck out seven.
