Red Raiders Swept By Mount Marty

Northwestern College dropped a pair of games to Mount Marty Saturday afternoon in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders lost game one 7-1 and 10-0 (7) in game two.

Casey Guthmiller and Matt Martin both went 2-for-3 to pace the Red Raiders' at the plate. Michael Callahan and Colton Harold had the other hits for NW.

Trailing 1-0, Northwestern came back to tie it with a run in the top of the second inning. Dustin Gaither led off with a walk, advanced to second after a single by Harold and both players moved up after a balk by Lancers' pitcher Dakota Stone. Gaither later scored on an RBI groundout by Mark Primrose.

Mount Marty grabbed the lead for good in the home-half of the second, scoring three runs on four hits. A Justin Miller two-run single was the big hit for the Lancers. Miller added a solo home run in the fourth and drew a bases-loaded walk in the Mount Marty sixth inning.

Raphael DeHoyos (2-6) pitched the first five innings and gave up six hits, five runs in taking the loss.

Stone earned the complete-game win, improving to 7-3 on the season. The junior walked two and struck out eight while giving up six hits and one run. Miller led the Lancers at the plate with two hits and four RBIs.

Northwestern was limited to six hits by Lancers' starter Derek Miller in its 10-0, game-two loss. Reed Smith had a pair of singles and Guthmiller went 2-for-3 to lead the Red Raiders at the plate. Both Callahan and A.J. Nitzschke had a double and went 1-for-3.

Miller, who improved to 3-1 on the season, struck out seven and did not walk a batter in the full seven innings.

Tanner Ortlund picked up the loss, giving up seven hits and five runs in three innings. Five NW relievers combined to pitch the final five innings.

Caden Skinner went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and Hunter Hallock added three hits and two RBIs for Mount Marty.
