Northwestern College swept Simpson in a non-conference softball doubleheader played today in Indianola, Iowa. They defeated the Storm 8-0 in five innings in game one and came back with a 5-2 in the nightcap. The Red Raiders earned their 20th win of the season, improving to 20-17.Â
Kayla Tindall pitched her third shutout of the season, 10th for her career, in leading the Red Raiers to an 8-0 win in game one. The junior gave up two hits, walked three and struck out three in improving to 12-8 on the year.Â
Northwestern put three runs across in each of the first two innings and added two more runs in the fourth. Jaclyn Smith paced the Red Raiders offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Madison Beaver went 3-for-4 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot while Jessica Rayela went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored.Â
Maggie Long took the loss for the Storm, giving up 12 hits and eight runs in five innings. Madison Rasmusson and Kayla Reusche both had a single for the two Simpson hits.Â
Morgan Means pitched the Red Raiders to their game two win, improving to 8-9 on the year. Means limited the Storm to four hits and two earned runs while striking out two in the full seven innings.Â
Tied at one heading into the fourth inning, Jessica Sandbulte hit a double down the left field line to score Cheyenne Wilcke from first to give NW a 2-1 lead. Emily Sones followed with an RBI single, scoring Sandbulte to put the Red Raider up 3-1.Â
Simpson came back with a run in the home half of the fourth after an RBI double by Madi Bennett, her second of the game.
Northwestern added two big insurance runs, however, in the sixth, when Jensen Boger led off with a single, advanced to third after a double by Wilcke. Both players scored off a sacrifice fly by Sandbulte.Â
Rasmusson (3-9) pitched well in the loss, holding the Red Raiders to six hits and five runs, four earned. Bennett had two of the four Simpson hits in game two, both doubles.
