Red Raiders Finish 2-1 at Friends Tournament

Northwestern College won its final two games and finished 2-1 at the Friends Tournament on Saturday, March 4 in Wichita, Kan. The Red Raiders opened with a 9-3 loss to Benedictine but came back to defeat Southwestern 12-2 in five innings and Ottawa (10-5). 

The Red Raiders improve to 6-5 on the year and will play No.4 St. Gregory's on Monday in Shawnee, Okla. 

vs Benedictine: Northwestern lost to the Ravens 9-3, No stats available at this time.

vs Southwestern-Northwestern belted three home runs and totaled 12 hits in its 12-2, five-inning win over the Moundbuilders.

Madison Beaver and Jessica Rayela hit solo home runs and Katie Elliott smacked a two-run shot, all in the Red Raiders four-run second inning. 

Northwestern opened the game with four runs in the top of the first. Three straight singles by Beaver, Bri Petrauskas and Rayela led to the first run while a two-run double by Emily Sones plated the final runs in the inning. 

The Red Raiders led 8-0 after the four-run second and put the game away with a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Elliott had an RBI double in the fifth and Northwestern took advantage of two Southwestern errors, leading to a pair of unearned runs. 

Morgan Means pitched a complete-game, giving up five hits and two runs to earn her second win of the season. Beaver went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Elliott added two hits and three RBIs to lead the Red Raiders at the plate. 

vs Ottawa-A four-run fifth inning put Northwestern in front for good in its 10-5 win over the Braves. Trailing 4-2, Jaclyn Smith hit a two-run single to tie the game at four. Jensen Boger followed with an RBI groundout, scoring Rayela, and Cheyenne Wilcke then hit an RBI double that scored Smith and put Northwestern in front 6-4. 

Ottawa came back a run in the home half of the fifth but the Red Raiders added four insurance runs in the seventh to put the game away. Beaver hit a three-run double and Jessica Sandbulte had an RBI groundout. 

Kayla Tindall earned the win in relief of Means, pitching the final 4.1 innings. Tindall allowed four hits and just one run, striking out seven.

Beaver was one of the stars offensively, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Both Smith and Wilcke added two hits each.
