Raphael DeHoyos pitched 6.1 strong innings and Red Raider bats provided three home runs in leading Northwestern to an 11-5 game one win over Missouri Valley this afternoon in Marshall, Mo. The Spartans salvaged a split by winning game two against NWC, 7-3.
DeHoyos gave up four hits and five runs, just two earned, in 6.1 innings. The junior struck out nine and walked five. Victor Mena recorded the final two outs, striking out one.
Matt Martin, David Rowley and A.J. Nitzschke all hit home runs to highlight the Red Raider offense. Martin hit solo shot in the first, Rowley a solo home run in the third and Nitzschke a two-run shot in the second. All three players totaled two RBIs.
Northwestern bats totaled seven hits in its 7-3 game two loss. Nitzsche once again led the Red Raiders at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, and Dustin Gaither also went 2-for-3 with a two-run double.
Colin Pennings (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up seven hits and six runs in four innings. Zach Rosson gave up an unearned run in the fifth and Patrick Wagner pitched a scoreless sixth.
The Red Raiders will play Missouri Valley in another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 25
