Raiders Take Care of Business at Doane

The Raiders scored the most match points in coach Rik Dahl's career Tuesday with 107 match points in a 30-14 dual victory over Doane University. It takes the Raiders to 3-0 in duals and 2-0 in GPAC Duals.

Northwestern got off to another interesting start as the 125 and 133 weight classes did not go in their favor. The Raiders have had to come back in every dual so far this season and Tuesday started off no different.

Kalrenbeek lost to Santos (ranked second in the GPAC) via tech fall and Hergott lost in a tight match to Fletcher 10-13 for a decision to put NWC down 0-8. Then the Raiders found their groove.

Eli Dahl won via decision against Hood, this was Dahl's first dual win of the year; Preciado shutout Herron for a 16-0 tech fall; then Zeleny, Null, and Shuler all put up enough points to earn major decision to put the Raiders up 20-8.

The dual became close again when D'rell Gist was pinned by Zach Linton, ranked second in the GPAC, in the second period. The match was back and forth throughout the 5:54 time frame but Gist was put in a tough position and could not work out of it.

Doane's attempt for their own comeback was quickly thwarted by Nicholas Null who took advantage early of Hudiburgh and pinned him 1:18 into the match. This put the match out of reach for the Tigers seeing the Raiders up 26-14.

Victor Garcia, wrestling in his first dual of the year, ended the night off well for the Raiders. He was aggressive early and often putting himself in a comfortable lead eventually winning by major decision 17-5.

* Denotes Starting Weight of the Dual

"Our guys were loose and had a good warm up and you saw the results of that today," commented Head Coach Rik Dahl. "When we were in control of ties and attacking posts on top, we looked tough. However we let off the gas a few too many times. We are making good progress and that is fun to see."

The Red Raiders travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the Augustana Duals Saturday, December 9 where they will face Southwest Minnesota State University, Augustana University, and Drury University. The action will kick off at 10am.
