Wager To Play Soccer, Run Track at Northwestern

Ryan Wager (Huron, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer and track and field careers at Northwestern College.4964

Wager is a multi-sport athlete who lettered five years for the James Valley Christian School soccer team. Wager scored 49 goals and accumulated 30 assists over the course of his career and earned first team all-conference honors two years.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in math education at Northwestern. 
 
"Ryan has incredible work ethic and is a great teammate," commented Northwestern head coach Dan Swier. "Student-athletes like Ryan have a positive impact on their teammates, not just on the field but in all aspects of life. We are confident that Ryan will do the same during his time at Northwestern."
 
"Ryan is a very scrappy and hardworking young man," said Northwestern assistant coach Adam Potter. "I am excited to see him bring his aggressive edge to the field every day."
 
Wager has competed five years for the James Valley Christian track and field team heading into his final season this spring. He qualified for the state meet as a member of the 4x100, 4x200 and medley relay both his sophomore and junior years, placing fifth in the medley as a sophomore. Wager has personal bests of 11.4 in the 100m and 24.8 in the 200m. He is the son of Al and Linda.
 
"We are looking forward to having Ryan join our men's track and field team next year," said Northwestern track and field head coach Scott Bahrke. "He is a great relay runner and will add depth to our sprints crew."
