The Red Raiders continue their unbeaten GPAC Conference start after two second half goals propelled them to victory Wednesday at Dakota Wesleyan University. Northwestern is now 8-2-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in conference play.
The first half started off slow for both teams as much of the play happened between the two goal boxes.
Madison Bertman hit the post in the 6th minute but the remaining 10 shots the Raiders had did not test the Tiger keeper.
The Raiders started off the second half really strong as much of the play was in the attacking half. The Tiger stronghold broke open in the 59th minute when
Katie Inge beat a Tiger defender to a second ball off a clearance and hit a first time screamer shot into the back of the net. It was Inge's first goal of the season.
The next 23 minutes saw a lot of back and forth between the Tigers and the Raiders but the Raiders were able to finish the game off with a goal off a corner kick taken by
Sarah Homan to the back post where
Madison Bertman headed home the cross. The 86th minute goal sealed the deal as the Raiders held possession for the last 4 minutes.
Northwestern has tied their school record for shutouts in a season with 8. They currently have allowed only 5 goals so far on the season.
The Raiders face off against Concordia University Saturday at 5pm at the NWC Soccer Complex in another GPACÂ battle.Â
