The Red Raiders host Doane College Tuesdayat the NWC Soccer Complex in the first round of the GPAC Tournament. The quarterfinal matchup is rematch of an early season conference matchup in which the Raiders came away with a 3-0 road victory. The Tigers are 5-12-1 overall and finished with a 3-5-1 GPAC record. The seventh place Tigers only were able to obtain 3 wins in conference, all of which came against the bottom three teams in the standings.
The Raiders come into the match 11-5-2 overall and 7-2-0 in the conference and only have losses to Midland, the fourth seed, and Hastings, the top seed in the GPAC Tournament.
Northwestern was able to take an early lead in their previous matchup with Doane scoring in the 29th minute off a
Alex Schussman goal. The Raiders doubled their tally 59 seconds later with a goal from
Morgan Newby. The Raiders controlled most of the game and took the 2-0 lead into half time. The second half was physical and saw many yellow cards throughout but the Raiders were able to maintain their composure and cap off the night with a 76 minute goal from
Cole Cruse.
The Tigers have been lead all year offensively by Daniel Maganda who has 9 goals and 5 assists on the year. 5 of those goals and 4 of those assists have come in GPAC play. They have been lead in net all year by Nishesh Yadav who has made 100 saves on the year and has a .735 save percentage.
The Raiders have been riding the strong play of
Tyler Limmer on the offensive side of the ball. Limmer has netted 13 goals on the year, 9 of which have come in GPAC play.
Alex Schussman has also been strong in conference play for the Raiders scoring 5 goals in the GPAC.
Matt Scott has continued to be strong in the back for the Raiders starting all 18 games and making 89 saves with a 0.800 goals against average and a 0.856 save percentage on the year.
Kickoff for the match is slated for 7pm and students can get into the game for free but all other fans will be charged $8 for admission.
