The Red Raiders lost 3-1 in a tough GPAC Conference match up Saturday against Hastings College. The Raider, by virture of other results, solidify at least a top 4 finish in the GPAC. This solidfies that the Raiders will host at least a first round GPAC tournament matchup.
The Raiders were riding high early in the game after playing well in the first 15 minutes and going up a man after Murilo Ceruli earned a quick double yellow, and resulting red, after a hard foul on
Connor Sams and then subsequent verbal lashing of the ref resulting in the second offense. The 17th minute send off gave the Raiders high hopes until 2 minutes later.
The Raiders gave up a hard earned penalty kick when
Matt Scott came out and cleared out a Hastings player on the way to punching out the ball. The action was viewed as egregious and called a foul on Scott. Daniel Whitehall stepped up and converted the Hasting penalty kick.
Less than a minute later, the Broncos doubled their tally after Whitehall played a streaking Daniel Simonis for an easy finish past
Matt Scott. The goal was a dagger to the Raiders as the uphill battle became much harder to achieve.
Northwestern was not able to cash into the numerical advantage for most of the second half and the Broncos were able to seal the deal in the 78th minute because of a breakthrough by Lucas Venegas for an easy finish for Daniel Simonis.
The Red Raiders were able to earn a consolation goal in the 80th minute when
Lee Wynja, playing out wide rather than the center of the field, was able to whip in a cross from the right hand side of the field to
Breno Fabbri who put away the cross.
The Raiders finish off the regular season Saturday, October 28th at Briar Cliff University at 3:15pm.
