Northwestern College moved up to third in this week's edition of the NAIA Volleyball Coaches' poll announced by the NAIA earlier today.
Ranked 11th in the last poll announced Sept. 19, the Red Raiders moved up eight spots and into the top five for the first time since the 2013 season. They were the biggest mover among teams in this week's poll and match the second highest ranking since 2009. Northwestern was ranked second for one week (Nov.3) in 2009.Â
Northwestern is one of six teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) to be in this week's top 25, joining Hastings (4), Dordt (7), Midland (9), Morningside (21) and Doane (23).Â
Viterbo claimed the top spot in this week's poll, taking over for previously unbeaten and defending champion Hastings, who was defeated last weekend by the Red Raiders. Viterbo earned 17 of the 21 possible first place votes and is one of two teams left unbeaten in the NAIA. Lindsey Wilson moved up one spot to third, earning the final first place votes, and is also unbeaten on the year. Northwestern, Hastings and Park (Mo.) round out the top five.
