Northwestern out to continue program progress
Rik Dahl looks over his Northwestern wrestling program and is pleased with the direction it is going. Two years ago he may not have been able to say that. Dahl watched his team lose 11 of 14 duals it took part in and it had the competitive coach, a former All-American for the Red Raiders in 1997, rethinking more than a few things.

Head wrestling coach Rik Dahl has released the 2016-17 schedule. It features five tournaments, 13 duals, the NWCA National Duals, the GPAC Championships, and the NAIA National Championships. The schedule also features seven junior varsity events.

State Champion Tanner Stamper-Smith of Havelock High School was presented the 16th Annual James Johnson Award as the best scholastic wrestler in eastern North Carolina in 2016. The award is named in honor of three time national champion James Johnson.
Tanner Stamper-Smith (Havelock, N.C.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his wrestling career at Northwestern College next fall.
Northwestern was named a Top 20 NAIA academic team by the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) on Monday. The Red Raiders came in 15th with a 2.9775 team GPA.
Sr. Zach Fishman and Soph. Brandon Shuler were named NWCA Academic All-Americans on Monday. Wrestlers must have at least a 3.25 grade-point average and be a 2016 NAIA national championship qualifier or have a 3.0 GPA and earned All-American honors at the 2016 championships in Topeka.
Seniors BJ Groskreutz and Preston Hoebelheinrich were named 2016 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes today by the NAIA. Both Groskreutz and Hoebelheinrich earned the honor last year as well.
Six Raiders Earned All-GPAC Honors for their efforts this season including seniors Zach Fishman and Tyree Cox, who were named to the All-GPAC first team.
Null Named At-Large, Earns Berth To Championships
Sophomore Nicholas Null was named an at-large for the NAIA National Championships and will join the five Red Raiders that qualified on Saturday at the NAIA North Qualifier in Topeka for the NAIA Championships.
Two Northwestern College wrestlers concluded their season at the 2015 NAIA Wrestling National Championship held this weekend in Topeka, Kan.
The NAIA announced its list of Scholar Athletes for the 2014-15 wrestling season and two Northwestern College athletes earned the academic honor.
