Red Raiders Face Simpson, Central In Final Non-Conference Matches

Game Time...Northwestern College resumes its season with a pair of non-conference matches this weekend in Central, Iowa. The Red Raiders will play Simpson on Friday afternoon at 4pm in Indianola and will then head to Pella to play another NCAA D-II school, Central, on Saturday morning at 9am. 

All-Time...Northwestern is 3-4 all-time against Simpson, last playing the Storm in 2015. The Red Raiders are 3-4 against Central with their last match also in 2015.

The Storm finished its fall season with a 5-7 record, 2-6 in conference play. They finished seventh in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, just missing out on team postseason play that will be played this spring. They last played in the IIAC Individual Tournament on Oct. 7-8 in Waterloo, Iowa.

Gruenisen is in her second season as the head coach of the Storm, guiding her team to a fifth place finish in 2015-16 with a 3-4 record, 5-16 overall. Four starters return from last year's team.

Also part of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Dutch finished fourth in the regular season with a 5-3 league record, 8-4 overall. They qualified for postseason play as a team, earning a spot in the conference tournament held later this spring. Central is 1-1 this spring, losing to Purdue-Northwest (Ind.) and then defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor. 

Ferrell is in his third season as the head coach of the Dutch women's tennis program. He returns three starters and a total of 11 players from last year's team that went 11-5 overall, 5-2 and finished third in the IIAC.

Northwestern is off to a 3-2 start to the season, all played against non-conference teams. They hold wins over two teams from the IIAC, a NCAA D-III conference, Buena Vista and Nebraska Wesleyan. The Red Raiders also defeated Bethany Lutheran and lost to Bethel (Minn.) and Saint Benedict (Minn.). 

This will be the final tune-up prior to conference play.
