Red Raiders, Mount Marty Clash on Wednesday Night

Game Time...No. 25 Northwestern College travels to Yankton, S.D. for a conference match-up against Mount Marty on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Tip-off at Cimpl Arena is scheduled for 6pm.  Northwestern is currently in ninth place in the GPAC with a 4-6 record, 1/2 game in back of four teams tied for fifth. They are 12-6 overall. Mount Marty is one of four teams tied for fifth in the GPAC with a 4-5 record, 9-9 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 52-22 against Mount Marty dating back to the 1977 season. The Red Raiders are 7-3 over the last 10 match-ups, going 1-2 against the Lancers last year.

Scouting Report:

Mount Marty Lancers: 4-5 (T5th), 9-9    Head Coach: Tom Schlimgen (9th year)

The Lancers snapped their three-game losing streak last time out, defeating Dordt 85-71 last Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center. Prior to Saturday's win, they had lost to both Mount Vernon Nazarene and Spring Arbor in non-conference play and then to Hastings in their first GPAC  game after the Christmas break. Mount Marty is tied with Midland, Doane and Briar Cliff for fifth place in the current GPAC standings with a 4-5 record, 9-9 overall. 

Schlimgen is in his ninth season as the Lancers' head coach and returns two starters and nine players from a 2015-16 squad that finished tied with Dakota Wesleyan for second in the GPAC at 15-7. They won three games at the NAIA D-II Women's Basketball National Championship before losing to eventual champion Marion (Ind.) in the semi's to end with a 25-11 record.

Earning votes in the each of the three previous coaches' polls, Northwestern moved up to 25th in the Jan. 10 edition, one of five GPAC teams in the top 25 and one of six conference teams recognized in the poll. Northwestern is 4-6 in the GPAC, 1/2 game in back of four teams tied for fifth in the conference standings. They are 12-6 overall.

Northwestern averages 78ppg, third most in the GPAC

The Red Raiders are second in field goal percentage (45%), 8th best in the NAIA; also rank 8th in the NAIA in free throw percentage (76%)

Kassidy De Jong scores a team-best 21ppg to go with 7.8rpg

Haley Birks is sixth in the GPAC in scoring (14.4); reached double figures in 12 games; Birks is 10th in the GPAC in rebounding (6.1) and first in blocks (25)

Darbi Gustafson scores 13ppg and has netted double figures in 10 straight and 12 overall games this season; Gustafson is tied for first in the GPAC in rebounds (9.2) and double-doubles (6)

Paige Danner (10.6, 24 3pters) and Anna Kiel (10.7, 5rgp) also score in double figures

Renee Maneman leads the NAIA with 132 assists; ranks sixth all-time with 407 assists

Chanda Zomermaand leads the team with 28 3pters, shooting 42% from beyond the arc, 2nd best in the GPAC
