Kendra De Jong scored a game-high 26 points in leading 10th-ranked Northwestern to a 75-62 road win over Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night in the Corn Palace. The Red Raiders have won 10 straight games and remains tied for first place in the GPAC with an 8-2 record, 14-4 overall. DWU lost for the first time in six games and falls to 3-7 in the GPAC, 12-8 overall.

Trailing by two, Northwestern went on a 14-0 run to pull ahead 27-15 with six minutes left in the first half. Mallory Cunard hit a pair of three-pointers during the run and De Jong scored six points during the spurt. Northwestern pushed the lead to 40-25 by halftime.

The Red Raiders continued to pull away in the second half, leading by as much as 23 points (64-41) after a Val Kleinjan three-pointer with eight minutes to go. Dakota Wesleyan made a late charge, outscoring NWC 12-2 over a three minute stretch, to get within nine (71-62) but the Raiders scored the final four points to seal the win.

Northwestern shot 42% from the field and a season-high 47% from beyond the arc (7/15). De Jong reached double figures for the 16th time this season, netting 26 points and pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. Kleinjan added 12 points, nine from beyond the arc, and Cunard scored nine points off the bench. The Raiders held a slim 40-37 advantage on the boards and dished out 20 assists, led by Kami Kuhlmann and Alli Dunkelberger with six each.

Dakota Wesleyan was led by Celeste Beck with 14 points while Whitnee Clayton added 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Tigers were held to 35% from the field and just 27% from the three-point line.

Northwestern will host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2:00 pm.
