Third-ranked Northwestern had its seven-game win streak snapped at the hands of Dakota Wesleyan, 75-66, in Mitchell, S.D Wednesday night. The Raiders drop to 13-2 in the GPAC, 19-6 overall while DWU improves to 13-14 overall, 6-9 in the GPAC.

With Dakota Wesleyan ahead by one (17-16), Northwestern scored five straight points, capped by a pair of free throws by Randa Hulstein, that put the Raiders up by four. The host Tigers netted eight straight points to take the lead back, 25-21, only to have NWC score four straight to tie it at 25. A three-pointer by Val Kleinjan was answered by DWU guard Heidi Lusk to give the Tigers a 30-28 lead at intermission.

Northwestern opened the second half on a 13-4 to grab its largest lead of the night, 41-34.Dakota Wesleyan countered with a 23-8 run of its own to take the lead for good, 57-49, with under 10 minutes to play. A basket by Kami Kuhlmann cut the Tigers lead down to six on the next possession but that would be as close as the Raiders would get. DWU scored the next six points to push the lead up to double digits and the hosts made 18-of-20 free throws in the second half to clinch the win.

The Raiders shot 38% from the field (24/64) and just 22% from the three-point line. Becca Hurley scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Kami Kuhlmann was the only other Raider player in double figures with 17. Northwestern held a slim rebound advantage, 40-39, led by Randa Hulstein with 12, the 10th time that the junior has recorded double figures on the glass.

Four players scored in double figures for DWU, led by junior Allison Johnson with 19. Jessica Deinert netted 17, including five three-pointers, while Sarah Mortenson added 12.

The Raiders will host Doane on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2:00 pm.
