The Northwestern College women's basketball team improved to 11-0 this season with a 103-71 win against Dakota Wesleyan last night in Mitchell, S.D. The Red Raiders are off to their second best start in school history (NWC began the 2006 season with a 12-0 record). They are 2-0 in the GPAC and will play Mount Marty in Yankton, S.D. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:00 pm.
The Red Raiders grabbed the early lead, 10-2, and led 18-7 after the opening five minutes. DWU cut the lead down to four (23-19) before a 14-5 run put NWC up by double digits. Northwestern scored the final six points and led, 56-40, at halftime.
In the second half, an Amy Larson three pointer put the Red Raiders up, 68-47, with 15:40 left to play. NWC rolled from there as they scored over 100 points for the sixth time in 11 games.
Coach Woudstra's squad shot 66% for the game compared to 43% for Dakota Wesleyan. Debbie Remmerde netted a game-high 34 points to lead three NWC players in double figures. Amy Larson chipped in 19, including five three pointers, and Mandy Carr added 10. Northwestern out-rebounded the host Tigers, 33-23, and were led by Crystal Algood (8) and Miranda Boekhout (7). Boekhout dished out nine assists.
Northwestern, ranked second in this week's NAIA poll, will play Mount Marty on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Lancers dropped out of the top 25 but are receiving votes in this week's poll. Tipoff for the game is at 2:00 pm.
