Red Raiders End Season With Sweep Over Hastings

Mons Figueroa hit a pair of home runs and Kayla Tindall pitched a complete-game, seven-hitter in leading Northwestern to a 3-1 win over Hastings in game one of a GPAC softball doubleheader. The Red Raiders earned a sweep with a 6-4 win in game two.

Northwestern ends the season in ninth place in the GPAC with an 8-14 record, 20-29 overall.

Figueroa hit her first home run, a solo shot, in the top of the second inning to put Northwestern in front 1-0. The junior's second home run, also a solo shot, came in the fourth and gave NWC a 2-0 advantage.

Hastings answered with a run in the fifth inning after an RBI single by Heather Sabata but the Red Raiders scored a big insurance run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Jessica Stofferan, scoring Figueroa.

Tindall outdueled Hastings pitcher Taylor Erlenbusch, limiting the Broncos to seven hits and one earned run in seven innings. Tindall, who ends the season with a 10-14 record, struck out seven.

Erlenbusch, a two-time all-GPAC pick, took the loss and gave up six hits and three runs while striking out seven.

Northwestern totaled eight hits and took advantage of six Broncos' errors in its 6-4 win in game two.

Dana Hedlund (9-11) won her third consecutive start and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs in seven innings. Hedlund registered one strikeout.

Madison Beaver paced the Red Raiders offense, going 2-for-5 with a run and RBI from the leadoff spot. Jensen Boger added two hits and Allison Herbert went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Northwestern scored a run in both the first and second innings and plated four runs in the fifth.

This marks the end of the season for the Red Raiders and is the final game for the four seniors; Tierra Fletcher, Allison Herbert, Laura Hurley and Clare Ipema.
