Red Raiders Fall to Dakota Wesleyan

Colton Kooima scored a game-high 28 points but Northwestern lost to 15th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan on the road, 92-79, in Mitchell, S.D.

How It Happened...

Northwestern jumped out to its largest lead, 13-6, when T.J. Buyert knocked down a three-pointer at the 15-minute mark.

The game was tied at 17 and 19 but Northwestern went ahead by three (24-21) following a basket by Colton Kooima and two free throws by Riley Francis

The lead switched hands five times and the game was tied on three occasions over the final nine-plus minutes of a first half that ended on a Kooima basket to put Northwestern on top 43-42.

Tied again at 43, Dakota Wesleyan went on a 9-2 run and led 52-45 after a basket by Terrell Newton.

Northwestern tied the game at 52 moments later off a jumper by Jordan Baker but the host Tigers outscored NWC 15-5 over a six minute stretch to push the lead to 10.

The Red Raiders cut it to four on two separate occasions, the final at 76-72 after a basket by Wedel with 5:41 left.

By the Numbers...

Northwestern shot 41% for the game but made just 2 of its 13 three-point attempts for 15%.

Colton Kooima poured in 28 points, his 12th game with 20-or-more points this season.

Nathan Wedel scored 18, going 7-for-11 from the field; Jordan Baker recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Bryce Moss was also in double figures with 11.

Northwestern had a slight edge on the glass (39-38), led by Baker (13), Wedel (8) and Chris Borchers, who pulled down a career-high six boards.

The Red Raiders have dropped three of their last four and move to 8-11 in conference play, 14-14 overall. They look to be in line for the eighth seed in the upcoming GPAC Tournament with one game left to play.
