Kooima Leads Northwestern Past Mount Marty

Colton Kooima scored a game-high 29 points in leading Northwestern College to a 94-50 win over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center. 

The Key Plays...

Northwestern never trailed but the game was close for the first 15 minutes of the opening half. 

Leading by one (23-22), Northwestern scored the next 18 points, nine from Kooima, as the Red Raiders took a 41-22 advantage. 

Both teams scored during the final seconds to make it 43-24 at the half.

Up 16 (46-30) in the opening minutes of the second half, Northwestern outscored the Lancers 18-1 over a four-plus minute stretch to push the lead to 64-31. Kooima scored 10 straight points to get the run started and the sophomore capped it with a three-pointer at the 12:55 mark.

Northwestern extended its lead to as many as 47 just before the game concluded. 

By the Numbers...

Kooima led all scorers with 29 points, going 12-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Kooima has now scored in double figures in 21 games and has netted at least 20 points in 12 contests.

Both Jordan Baker and Mading Thok netted 13 points  and three players, Nathan Wedel, Bryce Moss and Blake Riggen, chipped in eight points each.

Every Northwestern player saw at least nine minutes of playing time.

Northwestern held a commanding 48-24 edge on the boards, led by Moss with eight and Baker with seven.

The Red Raiders shot better than 60% in each half and 63% for the game.

Jaxon Heinz dished out a game-high five assists.

Mount Marty shot 30% for the game and struggled from the three-point line (19%)

KJ DeCristino was the lone Lancers' player in double figures with 11 points.

Northwestern moved up to seventh in the current GPAC standings with an 8-9 league record, 14-12 overall. They own a one half game lead over Dordt and are just a half game in back of sixth place Concordia.

Northwestern will visit Seward, Neb. to play Concordia on Saturday, Feb. 13 in a key GPAC match-up.
