Men's Basketball Advances to Conference Semi's

Daniel Van Kalsbeek scored a game-high 18 points and Ben Miller recorded his first career triple-double in leading fifth-ranked Northwestern to a 77-63 win over Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC men's basketball quarterfinals. Northwestern won its ninth straight game and improved to 24-5 overall heading into Saturday's GPAC semifinal.

Northwestern found itself down early, trailing 12-10 after a three-pointer by DWU guard Bo LaCroix. The Red Raiders scored the next seven points, however, and held Dakota Wesleyan scoreless for five minutes to take a 17-12 lead with 7:30 left in the first half. A basket by Van Kalsbeek put NWC up 12 at the four-minute mark and they took a 37-27 lead into the break.

A three-pointer by Zack Leeper followed by another basket by Leeper and Stu Goslinga put the Red Raiders up 17 early in the second half. Dakota Wesleyan hung around, however, and cut it to 10 with a basket by Luke Bamberg at the 5:49 mark. A late 13-4 run, capped by a Joey Habtemariam three-pointer, put the game away for NWC.

Northwestern shot 47% for the game and held a 48-31 advantage on the glass. Van Kalsbeek went 6-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-9 from the line en route to 18 points. Leeper added 15 points and six rebounds while Miller scored 11 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high 10 assists. Bryce Moss came off the bench to score 10 points and pulled down five boards.

Dakota Wesleyan shot 39% for the game and was led by Aireus Stephenson with 17 points while Mike Lee added 16. The Tigers end the year with a 14-17 record.
