Men's Basketball Rolls To Fifth Straight Win

Fifth-ranked Northwestern rolled to an 84-60 win over Mount Marty in a GPAC men's basketball match-up played Wednesday night in the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders won their fifth straight game and improved to 14-3 in the GPAC, 20-5 overall. 

Leading by one (14-13), Northwestern outscored the Lancers 27-7 over the final 10 minutes of the first half to open up a 41-20 halftime lead. The Red Raiders scored 19 straight points during that stretch, holding the Lancers to one field goal over the final seven minutes. 

Northwestern put the game away with a 20-7 run at the start of the second half and opened up a 30-point lead for nearly the entire second half. 

Stu Goslinga led a balanced NWC offense with 17 points and nine rebounds, going 8-for-10 from the field. Zack Leeper scored 14 points while both Ben Miller and Daniel Van Kalsbeek netted 12. Northwestern dominated the glass, 51-28, led by Miller with 14. It marked the eighth double-double of the season for Miller, who also dished out eight assists. 

Mount Marty shot 35% for the game and was led by Joe Hieb with 17 points. The Lancers dropped their sixth straight and fall to 3-14 in the GPAC, 7-19 overall. 

Northwestern heads on the road on Saturday, Feb. 9, to play 17th-ranked Doane.
