Northwestern lost to 23rd-ranked Dakota Wesleyan 89-76 in GPAC men's basketball action Wednesday night in the Bultman Center. The Raiders are now 5-6 overall, 1-2 in the GPAC while DWU improves to 3-1 in conference play, 10-3 overall.

Both teams held the lead early in the opening minutes but Northwestern surged ahead with a 7-2 run and led 28-23 with 7:47 left to play in the first half. Dakota Wesleyan came back to tie the game at 42 but the Raiders went into halftime with a 44-42 lead on a Brent Dunkelberger lay-up in the closing seconds.

The visiting Tigers outscored Northwestern 15-4 to start the second half and took the lead for good, 57-48. DWU continued its run later in the half and led by as much as 17 before the Raiders closed to within nine, 85-76, with under a minute to play. The Tigers, however, were not to be denied and won, 89-76.

Northwestern shot 44% from the floor, 32% from the three-point arc. Three players scored in double figures, led by Kale Wiertzema with 19 points on 8-of-22 from the floor. Ben Brown chipped in 18 points, making 7-of-10 field goal attempts. Brown also led the Raiders with eight rebounds. Walker Seim added 11 points off the bench for Coach Korver's squad. Northwestern held a 43-39 advantage on the glass, including 15 offensive boards. Andrew Stimson dished out a game-high six assists.

Dakota Wesleyan was led by Colby Fitzgerald who netted 22 points, one of four Tigers' players in double figures. Brady Wiebe nabbed a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. DWU had the advantage at the foul line, making 19-of-28 from the charity stripe compared to 6-of-8 for NWC.

The Raiders play host to Mount Marty on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
