The Northwestern College Red Raiders defeated Dakota Wesleyan 86-78 in the semifinals of the GPAC Postseason Men's Basketball Tournament. With the win, the Red Raiders, ranked seventh in the NAIA and seeded second, will advance to the GPAC Championship game on Tuesday night, March 4.

This was the third meeting between the two ranks teams with Northwestern coming out on top in the two previous match-ups. The Red Raiders led early on 11-5 before a 10-1 DWU run put the 16th-ranked Tigers on top, 15-12. Both teams held the lead over the next eight minutes until NWC took the lead, 25-24, on a jumper by Kale Wiertzema with four minutes left to play in the first half. Northwestern led by five, 36-31, at intermission.

DWU chipped away at the Red Raider lead in the early stages of the second half and tied the game at 42 with 16 minutes left to go. Northwestern outscored the Tigers 12-3 over a four minute span to pull ahead by nine, 54-45. DWU battled back and cut the lead down to four with under seven minutes to play but Coach Korver's squad held the rally off and went on to earn the eight point win.

Northwestern shot 47% for the game while DWU was 40% from the floor. Five Red Raider players scored in double figures, led by Chad Schuiteman with 22 points, matching his season high. Curt Schilling netted 17 points while Kale Wiertzema and Andrew Stimson added 11 each. Ben Brown added 10 points off the bench. Dakota Wesleyan was led by both Preston Broughton and Scott Nelson with 20 points apiece. Colby Fitzgerald added 13 points for the Tigers. DWU out-rebounded the Red Raiders, 38-35, led by Broughton with 11. Schuiteman grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and also dished out seven assists.

Coach Korver's squad will now host the GPAC Championship on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 pm against fifth seed Briar Cliff. The winner will earn the second automatic bid to the 32-team NAIA National Tournament.
